Louis-Lambert Jacobs (1932-2025)
Born in Rillaar, on October 17, 1932.
Religious vows on May 1, 1956.
Missionary in Congo (Kasayi), Haiti, and Belgium.
Died in Sint-Pieters-Leeuw (Zuun), on July 18, 2025,
at the age of 92.
Louis-Lambert Jacobs was born into a family of 10 children. Three of his sisters became nuns with the Sisters of Vorselaar: one brother joined the Fathers of the Sacred Hearts, and he himself joined the Missionaries of Scheut.
After high school in Alsemberg, Lambert began working as an accountant, having taken evening classes in accounting.
In 1954, Lambert entered Scheut and did his novitiate in Zuun. On May 1, 1956, he took his first vows.
In 1957, he left to study at the technical school in Kortrijk, where he obtained an A2 diploma in electricity. This was followed by another year of computer science studies in the United States.
In 1962, Lambert left for Kasai-Kananga. There, he was a teacher at the technical school and also managed the printing press and Lulua films. Subsequently, he was primarily responsible for accounting for the various services of the Province and also served as bursar of the Provincial House.
After 18 years, he left Kananga and, after a sabbatical year, left for Haiti. He stayed there for 13 years, in the parish of Cerca-La-Source, primarily at the Provincial House, serving as rector and bursar. He returned to Belgium in 1997.
He stayed in the houses of Leuven, Kessel-Lo, and SPL (Zuun). He died peacefully on July 18, 2025, in Sint-Pieters-Leeuw (Zuun).
Spirituality played an essential role in Lambert's life, with a special devotion to Our Lady. He was often seen praying silently in the chapel, near the statue of the Virgin Mary.
Lambert knew well that death would also be his lot, and he was prepared for it. He was ready.
He had given clear instructions for the funeral service. The homily was to focus clearly on the Gospel, and not on "the miseries of his life," as he himself wrote. And no photo on the memorial card, but a text that refers to his most profound conviction and perhaps also to his life experience: God is Love!
The love of God
carries you.
His hand will protect you
wherever you go
or wherever you may be.
May he rest in peace with the God of Love.
